Whispers

A poetry exercise for [livejournal.com profile] worldofscribble. Write a Tanka.

Leaves fall between us,
Cover, a slow obscuring.
So many secrets,
Mocking whispers, will they tell?
Once part of us, but no more.

Author's Note: I'm not sure why, but I've had trees on the mind lately. Plus, I'm currently reading Shōgun by James Clavell, so the Japanese poetry seemed to fit right in. *smile* Hopefully I didn't massacre it too badly.

Ill-conceived Plans

[livejournal.com profile] worldofscribble Writing Challenge, Comedy of Errors.

Glumly, I stared at the two remaining boxes in the car's trunk. I was cold, my back hurt, and I remembered all too clearly how heavy these last two containers of my dorm room detritus had been when I'd loaded them a few hours before. There was a powdering of snow along the cardboard's outer edges--probably shouldn't have left the trunk open while making all those trips back and forth to the house--and I suspected it wouldn't be long before they'd start to collapse under all the internal weight pushing outward.

If I Could Rule The World

AWOS Random Writing Challenge

This past Saturday morning, my wife, Lizbeth, and I were luxuriating in bed, enjoying a slow start to our weekend. She was using her phone to look at something on Facebook, whereas I was contemplating the feasibility of getting up, retrieving my laptop, and checking out the goings on in LJ land. Then, the noises started.Read more. )

Lauren tried the callout again, but as had happened a few moments earlier, the negative response she received was instantaneous.

The user you are trying to communicate with is not available!

She stared up at the strange house in confusion. Unlike every other structure on the street, it possessed no visual embellishments, no object tags which would've ordinarily identified its every public detail to her mental implant, not even an outdated holographic overlay. Nothing except two stories of reddish-brown brick, an occasional window winking back at her in the noonday sun, topped with what looked like tan trim along the roofline.

A World of Scribbles, Reborn

For those of you who missed it, buried as it was in the comments of my previous entry, I'm restarting my old writing community, A World of Scribbles, [livejournal.com profile] worldofscribble. I've revamped the rules somewhat, and invite any of you who are interested to stop by, read the profile page to find out what's up, and join if you like what you see. Similar to the LJ Idol competition I participated in earlier this year, there will be a writing prompt for community members every two weeks, and after everyone's posted there stories, a poll to see which submission people liked the best. Unlike LJI, no one will get eliminated, this is intended as an ongoing push to get those of us who love writing to actually do it. So, stop by, sign up, and participate when you can. I plan to kick off the first writing challenge this Sunday, after which, people will have a week to contribute something. Then, the poll goes up! *grin*

Oh yes, as with LJI, entries will be posted in people's journals, so you'll start seeing stories and essays from me here in Aimless Writings again. No worries, I'll tag them all with AWOS, should you *sobs* choose to skip them.

Dan, who can think of some excellent writers on his Flist he'd really like to see join up… Arm twisting? LOL
