I had a similar thought, "Will people dislike him for quitting, leaving instead of trying to stay and fix the problems?" I wanted him to take a moral stand, and it seemed to fit with what a younger person might decide to do.

Ha, I didn't have the space, but had fun thinking about just how furious her dad would be if they decided to make a go of it.
